About Temlple

Since over a century Velookkara Brahmana Samooham has been maintaining the Puthankulam Mahaganapathi Temple Complex which consisted of a large sequestered pool, its embankments and a structure to house the idols of Mahaganapathi and Naaga Devatas. The Poojas comprised of Ganapathy Homam, daily Poojas of Ganapathi and Naaga Devatas. Once a year during Ganesh Chathurthi, an elaborate worship of Ganapathi is carried out festooned with garlands, lamps and the trappings of mirth.
The history of Velookkara Brahmana Samooham is replete with countless examples of intrepid volunteers who had undertaken the tasks of conducting daily Poojas, motivated solely for the purpose of service to the Lord and all of them have been benefitted immensely having reached a watershed of comfort in their lives. Verily, the presiding deity is Ganapathi, easily pleased with least service and confers the four important boons of Dharma, Artha, Kaama and Moksha. This goes to prove indubitably the omniscient power of the deity of Puthankulam.

Old History

The idols of Ganapathi and Naaga Devathaas were installed under one roof and it was considered essential to make separate shrines in order to create a proper ambiance to disseminate positive energy for the benefit of mankind. A well-known astrologer was consulted who has advised construction of a separate temple for Ganapathi and a raised platform for the Naagas. During the Prasna consultation, it became evident that the presence of Goddes Durga was also latent with Ganapathi. It was therefore advised to have a temple for Durga too. A separate kitchen (Thidapilly) to cook the offerings also became a necessity.

Thus the whole temple complex assumes greater importance today and it was decided in the last AGM to go ahead with the construction of the temple set up as expeditiously as possible.

After the temple structures are ready a detailed consecration ceremony will ensue needing a huge financial outlay. The whole project is estimated to cost about Rs.40 Lakhs, which includes Temples for Ganapathi and Durga, Naagathara, Thidappally, Nadappura, Aalthara, Compound wall, Toilet, Maintenance work of the steps to pond etc.

A temporary structure to keep the idols till the temple complex is ready, has already been erected.

The “Shilastabanam” Kallidal ceremony is being conducted on the 15th of February, after which the construction hadl started with no loss of time.
